So, New Year’s is just a day or two away. This is the time of year where most people think about resolutions. After indulging during the holidays, many people want to lose weight. Some may want to learn a new skill or develop a healthy habit. Regardless of what form of self improvement you want to do, one thing is true: If you don’t change anything, nothing will change.

Right now you may be saying “Thanks, Captain Obvious.” It’s common sense that weight loss doesn’t happen unless you change your eating habits or your exercise regimen. Learning a new skill requires rearranging your schedule so you can devote time and effort to study and practice. Developing a new habit doesn’t happen without changing some of your current ones. So of course, if you don’t change anything, nothing will change.

What plans to you have to strengthen your relationship with Christ? What spiritual disciplines are you going to make a part of your daily life? How are you going to develop your faith? We know that in order to loss weight and get healthier we have to make a change. Why would our spiritual health be any different? If you don’t change anything, nothing will change.

I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Bothers, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me Heavenward in Christ Jesus. – Phil 3:12-14

Don’t be content thinking your spiritual life is ‘good enough.’ Christ wants us to constantly be pressing on to be transformed into His likeness. But if you don’t change anything, nothing will change.
