There is a passage in John that talks about people unbelief even after Jesus had performed miracles right in front of them. However, some people did have a change in heart. “Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees, they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God” (John 12:42-43)

Many people believed, but cared more about what other people thought rather than what God thought.

There is a scene in the animated movie Wreck It Ralph 2 where Ralph had been posting videos of himself to the internet and then by chance started reading the comments that people left about the videos. A few where positive and supportive, but some of them were cutting him down and making fun of him. That was a turning point in the movie because he had been on a roll, making successful videos and progressing toward his goal, but when he became aware of what other people thought (and not everyone, just what some people thought), it halted his progress. His friend came along and told him “Rule number one about the internet: Don’t read the comments.”

Focusing on what other people think will very rarely lead to Godliness. In that passage from John, people believed, THEY BELIEVED!, in Christ. But they cared more about what other people thought so they suppressed their convictions and aligned their behaviors to get the approval of man rather than from God.

If you are reading this, there’s a good chance that you already believe in Christ. However, is that belief compelling you to radically live differently or are you trying to fit in because you are concerned with what others think about you?

Seek first the kingdom of God, and don’t read the comments.
