About a month ago, the back rooms of our gym were not places that you wanted to hang out. They were dark, cluttered, dilapidated, and infested. The air was thick and pungent with the smell of dust and mold. The walls were dirty and had peeling paint. The ceiling was falling down in many places allowing insulation, wires, and lights to dangle and fall. This was an unsafe and undesirable place to be.

However, a crew has been hard at work back there. In our offices could be heard the sounds of heavy machinery driving around, metal cutting power tools, and sledge hammers hitting concrete block walls.

This morning I wandered around to check on the progress…and, wow, what a difference!

They have removed many of the interior walls and a part of the roof. There is now sunlight streaming in where once there was darkness. There a breeze where once the air was stagnant. There is an openness where once there was confinement. There is still a lot of work to do, but already, the transformation is astounding and the feel of the place is amazing!

What dark places are lurking in your life? What areas of your walk with God have become dilapidated?

God longs to come in with heavy machinery and power tools and sledgehammers to bring light to the dark, new to the stagnant, and freedom to the confined. But while we don’t like having these cringe-worthy places, when God pulls up with the bulldozer, we stand in the way like a protester protecting a rundown landmark.

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19)

Today, make the choice to let God knock some holes in the dark places of your life. Sure it wont be pleasant and others will see that you do indeed have things in your life to fix. But if a group of sweaty men can do such a transformation to our building, how much more will your Father in heaven work a transformation in you!
