A few days ago I planted corn. Now it’s too soon for it to have come up yet, but I dug up one of the seed this morning just to check an see how they were doing. As I expected, they were swollen. I took a picture of the swollen seed next to one that had still been in the seed packet. The one that had just been sitting in the packet (which is kept in a cool, dark, dry place) is small, shriveled and hard as a rock. But the one that had been in the ground, surrounded by the water in the soil, had taken in the moisture and is now starting the process of coming alive.

Are you surrounding yourself with Godliness? Scripture, prayer, encouraging messages, faithfulness. In a time like this, when a lot of us feel separated, it is crucial to surround yourself with Godly influences. That corn seed that was in the ground didn’t actively pull the water into it; the surrounding moisture pushed its way in. Likewise, if you are surrounding yourself with scripture, prayer, and faith, or if you are surrounding yourself with scary news stories, negative posts, and worldly influences, they are going to push their way in and start to transform you.

Make a special effort today to surround yourself with God and let Him start bringing you to life.

“My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” (Prov 4:20-22)
