What all can you tell me about your favorite hobby? What tools or skills do you need? Do you read about it in magazines or watch videos of it online? I bet you spend time thinking about it and how you can do better on your next project.

What about a close relative or your spouse. What all can you tell me about them? Maybe their personality, likes, dislikes, hopes, fears, plans, the things they want, how they will react and so on. And how did you come to know all this?

You learn about your hobbies and the people in your life by studying them. You spend time engaged with them, you pay attention to what they do or how things are going, you look up info on how to be better at the hobby or relationship. When you love something, you study it.

Do you study God? There is so much to learn about Him. He has a personality, likes, dislikes, plans, and desires. He has made Himself readily available to be known by us, but it requires study. We need to spend time engaged with Him in prayer, seeking Him in His Word, and meditating on His presence in our lives. This will require more than one hour a week. If I spent only one hour a week pay attention to my wife, we wouldn’t have a relationship for very long. Same is true for God.

“Blessed is the one…whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates on his law day and night.” Psalm 1:1-3

Today is a great day to go outside and spend time acknowledging God in His creation. Go study God.
