After preaching on Sunday about how we are to “keep in step” with the Spirit IF we are going to live by the Spirit, I realize that we have a choice to make. I discovered this during my preparations of the sermon, and during the presentation on Sunday, I prayed that those who heard the message from Galatians 5 and 6 would make the decision to be led by the Spirit.

According to the text, we have the choice to practice the deeds of the flesh or to produce the fruit of the Spirit.

We can not do both. I have to make a choice. You have to make a choice. You cannot do both.

You see, if you think you are producing fruit but are still living a life that is out of “step” with the Spirit, then your fruit has gone bad. That fruit is no good. We have a choice to make.

Do I serve God and live in the Spirit or do I serve myself and live however I want.

Jesus teaches in the sermon on the mount that we cannot have it both ways. We cannot be selfish. We cannot focus our lives on worldly things and on the things that are spiritual at the same time. Jesus says,

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Matthew 6:24

Make the choice today to “keep in step” with the Spirit by living your life according to the Spirit.

I love you,
