We cry out to each other all the time for each of us to “have a great day.” Well, now that you told me to have a great day, then I guess I will. But really, when you got up today, you have the opportunity to make the day what you want it to be. The potential to have a great day is in your hands. You get to decide how you want to think, act, and speak to others and with what attitude you want to do so. No matter what side of the bed you resurrect yourself, you make of it what you want the day to be.

Even if horrible things happen that are out of your control, you have the choice of how you will respond. Will you let small things bother you? Will you be negatively influenced by the world around you? Or will you make the choice to react with positivity and love?

I believe that if you respond with love, then it is a guarantee that you will have a great day. There are two recipients to whom love should be expressed. Jesus says that the two greatest commands are to love God and love others (Matthew 22:37-40)

“ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

Imagine how your day would be if, when you got up each day, you were determined to express love to God and to others. How could your day go wrong? Imagine the good you could do. Imagine the feeling at the end of the day. No matter what you did or what you got accomplished that day, at least you could look back on it and know you had a great day loving God and loving others. It’s a guarantee of a great day.

For the rest of the day and tomorrow, meditate on these words…

This is the day which the LORD has made;

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

Then do it all again the next day and then the next and then the next.

God loves you, and so do I,
