We serve the Lord in various ways, but one of the most basic methods is to be generous with others. It is a privilege to be able to give to others who are in need. To sacrificially give is a form of worship to God, and it is a blessing to bless others.

Today is Giving Tuesday. It’s not a national holiday or anything like that, but it recently has become a day when we can be reminded to reach into our pockets and give to someone else or to some cause or organization.

Personally, I like to give to the Lord’s church and then let the church do the work that makes the most difference for the Kingdom of Christ. I want God to get the glory. I want the financial giving I contribute to go to something that’s gonna make an eternal difference. You decide how, when, and what you give, but I encourage you to give to your local congregation of the Lord’s church. Give towards mission work, give towards our benevolent work, or other work like Youth Funds, scholarships, children’s homes, building funds, or just give without it not being earmarked at all. Just give.

Today is also a good day to consider what you give to the Lord’s church on a weekly regular basis. Did you know your regular giving should be a sacrifice that hurts? It should be purposed in your heart to give in such a way that you have to trust God to get you through till the next time He blesses you with another opportunity to give more. Wow, that steps on my toes, but that’s giving biblically.

Today, consider giving and be generous just because it’s a good time to give.

2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God can make every grace abound to you, so that in everything at every time having every sufficiency, you may have an abundance for every good deed;
