Every so often over the next few months I want to take the opportunity to look at a few of the main characters in the Bible at a glance just to give us some insight and maybe spur us all to dig a little deeper into who these people are. There’s no better place to start first than with the first man. So here we go.
Adam at a glance:
Adam was born approximately in 4004 BC and lived to be 930 years old. So that puts his death around 3074 BC. He was born (or created by God as a full grown man. He had no childhood! For this reason some say that Adam and Eve had no belly buttons. Funny right? As hard as that might be to picture it just might be true.
Adam was married to the first woman, Eve, who was formed by God by taking a rib from Adam and creating her. There was no wedding ceremony that we no of. Perhaps there was and the gorillas were the groomsmen and the baboons were the bridesmaids. The union was joined by God when he presented Even before Adam has his helper.
Adam has a few claims to fame like:
  • He was the first man
  • He named all the animals
  • He was the only man to have lived in the garden of Eden
A few Famous quotes from Adam:
“This is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh she shall be called ‘woman’, for she was taken out of man.”
~ Genesis 2:23-25
” I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
~ Genesis 3:10
“The woman you put here with me – she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
~ Genesis 3:12
Adam was an interesting man. It would be neat to interview him and ask him so many questions. For me, more than anything, it’s so neat to think about the unique relationship he had with God.
What do you think we can learn from Adam?
