Midway through Hebrews 6, the writer describes our hope in Christ as an “anchor” for the soul, “sure and steadfast” (Hebrews 6:19). Anchors, of course, are used to hold a ship in place by dropping a heavy weight to the seabed below.

This Christian anchor, however, is different.

This anchor doesn’t drop down; it raises up. This anchor rises to the throne of God in Heaven, where the King grabs hold of it and never lets it go. As long as we hold on to our end of the tether, we never have to worry about losing Christ. He will never give up on us. That’s the “sureness” of the anchor. Furthermore, no matter how difficult life becomes, as long as we hang on, Christ will never abandon us. That’s the “steadfastness” of the anchor.

What a blessing it is to know that Christ will always be there!
