How many sermons have you heard in your life? How many lessons? How many Bible classes? How many personal Bible studies have you done? How many times have you read through the bible?

These questions might be challenging for you. I hope so. I know that it challenges me. I hope it just makes you think for a moment. The reality, though, is the number of sermons, lessons, or bible classes does not automatically equal the spiritual growth you should be experiencing. I think it can help. The more opportunities the word of God is presented before you, the more opportunities you have to evaluate your life and see areas in which you need to do better.

What we are really talking about is change. Change is a central focus of what Christianity is all about. Change from who you were to who God wants you to be. It requires the mantra “Not my will but God’s will. While discussing this, let’s ask how the Word of God can change us.

The Bible is a collection of holy scriptures collected together as an amazing book. It’s amazing because it stands firm up to any and all tests of authenticity. But aside from that, it is especially amazing because of the change it can have in your spiritual and moral life. It is alive and powerful, and there is no other book like it. There are many books you can read that can change your thinking, but the Bible will change your perspective and your nature. It is the only book that can change you by transforming you from the inside out. Notice what Psalm 19:7-9 says about God’s Word:

The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul;

The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;

The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;

The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.

Since God’s word is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, and true,  then let it change you. Next time you have the opportunity to study and learn from God’s Word, let it change you. Ask yourself if you are any different. Don’t just hear it and then not change. Be different.

God loves you, and so do I,

Alexander
