Get ready for an exciting VBS experience at North Heights, just a little over two months away on July 28-31. We have a lot of fun activities and learning opportunities planned, so mark your calendars and start planning to attend. And why not invite your friends and family to join you? It’s going to be a blast, so go ahead and boost our Bible School!

But this article is not really about VBS; it’s about being a booster. I was reading in 1 Kings 2 this week and noticed what David said to his son Solomon when he gave him some last-minute instructions before he died. David explains to Solomon how to execute judgment on a few people who need to be punished. Really, David should have been the one to do it, and it was wrong for him to ask his son (the co-regent king) to carry out his wishes and judgments, but nevertheless, that’s what David says to do. But at the end of one of the judgments against a man named Shimei, David tells Solomon, “Now therefore, do not let him go unpunished, for you are a wise man; and you will know what you ought to do to him, and you will bring his gray hair down to Sheol with blood” (1 Kings 2:9).

Did you catch that? To paraphrase, David tells Solomon, “Son, you are smart, and you’ll know what to do”. What a great way to build confidence in a young man. Imagine if parents told their kids. “You are very intelligent; you are smart; you are wise. You will know what to do. I can only assume that would help kids feel good about themselves and help them make wise decisions. Its encouraging to hear words that lift you up and boost your confidence.

To be a “booster” means to be someone who encourages and lifts others up. Go ahead and say the words. Tell someone near you that you have confidence in them. Let them hear you say, “You got this”!

Booster, booster be a booster!

For the Lord,

Alex Mills

P.S. Remember, to go ahead and start inviting people to VBS at NHCOC!
