Have you ever saved up for something? Maybe a trip or large purchase? Can you imagine working extra hours or cut something out of the budget so you can put a little more cash aside? But isn’t it exciting seeing that account grow little by little? And isn’t it fun imagining the day you’ll get to cash in what you’ve been working hard for and enjoying that vacation or new car?
Do we get as excited as we save up for Heaven? Are we putting in the extra work? Are we spending extra time in the Word, in prayer, or practicing ministry to others? Are we cutting things out of our lives that take time and energy away from serving our Lord?
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on Earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matt 6:19-20)
