When you see the word “blessed” most times we read it as in when we receive blessings from God. But, this word can also be viewed as calling someone “blessed” as in “bless -ed”. The idea is when we say “blessed” we are referring to them as holy and sacred. So in the song “Blessed Jesus” we are referring to Jesus as one who is holy. Specifically, this song provides several reasons why Jesus is blessed.

The first verse says:

Blessed Jesus come to me

Soothe my soul with rays of peace.

As I look to You alone,

Fill me with Your Love.

Jesus is blessed as He is the one that can truly soothe our souls with His peace. He is the prince of peace and the provider of peace when we have historically fought and rebelled against God. We look to him alone to provide peace and love to be filled in our lives. (See John 14:27)

The second verse says:

Mountains high or valleys low;

You will never let me go.

By Your fountain let me drink;

Fill my thirsty soul.

Jesus is blessed as He is the one who is with us on the mountains of spiritual highs or in the valleys of spiritual lows. No matter what he will always be with us. He is blessed because He is the one that provides drink from a fountain where we will never go thirsty again. Blessed Jesus give us this drink. (See Matthew 28:18-20 and John 4:14)

The third verses says:

Blessed Jesus come to me,

As I fall down at Your feet

Let me touch Your nail scarred hands;

Jesus I would see.

Jesus is blessed as He is the one who is worthy of our fall down at his feet worship. He is the one that has the the scars to prove His willingness to give Himself up for our salvation. When people encountered the resurrected Jesus their immediate response was to worship Him. (See Matthew 28:17)

The Chorus says:

Glorious, marvelous grace that rescued me;

Holy, worthy is the Lamb who died for me.

Blessed Jesus is to receive glory because he is the one that provides marvelous grace that snatches us out of sin and transfers us into the kingdom of Christ.

He is Holy. He is worthy as the Lamb who died in our place. (See Colossians 1:13)

Blessed Jesus is a song of praise we need and should be singing today and everyday! Sing with me!
