This Sunday, I am preaching at North Heights, the second sermon in the series about taking care of yourself. It spins off the idea from the statement made by Jesus about loving your neighbor as you love yourself. To love me means that I need to take care of myself. There is a level of “self-care” that demands our attention if we are going to love ourselves effectively and, in turn, love our neighbors.

We’ve already explored how important it is to take care of ourselves spiritually. This Sunday, we will talk about taking care of ourselves physically. I’ve been told preachers should not meddle with specific topics and that some things should not be talked about from the pulpit. I can agree with that to some degree but let me make a case for talking about how important it is for us to be healthy in all aspects of our lives.

What I have studied over the past several weeks has revealed to me that there is a blended line between what is physical and what is spiritual. I believe these two are correlated together in more ways than what we realize. I believe that what we will discover on Sunday is that we will be better off spiritually if we take care of ourselves physically too!

Later this year, we will explore two other areas to take care of ourselves in, like taking care of ourselves mentally and socially. This is not meddling; this covers certain areas that makeup who we are as created beings made in God’s image.
