I’m well into a summer study of Exodus, and recently came to the fifth chapter, where Pharoah decides to add to the load of his Israelite slaves, in response to Moses’ demand that the people be set free…
Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.
(Exodus 5:18)
When I read that, I couldn’t help but think about how non-Christians, particularly atheists who are vehemently opposed to God and the Bible, will often label the Lord as a cruel tyrant who imposes burdensome restrictions on His people, etc.
Far from it!
God does have expectations, but He is also a Father full of benevolence, mercy, patience, and grace. If you want to see what the world would be like if God was like the rulers of the world, step into the shoes of the enslaved Israelite people. Deal with Pharoah for a season, and you will thank God for His righteousness, mercy, and love!
