Marriage, like any relationship, can go through difficult and uncertain seasons. At times, you may find yourself saying, “It’s complicated.” Challenges such as miscommunication, unresolved conflict, impatience, and inconsideration slowly erode peace and harmony. These struggles don’t appear overnight; they build up over time, and the solution isn’t as simple as flipping a switch—it requires intentional effort and commitment.

One of the biggest reasons relationships become complicated is a breakdown in communication. Are you truly listening to understand, or are you just waiting for your turn to respond? Most couples enter marriage with deep love and commitment, but over time, misunderstandings, unspoken expectations, and emotional walls create tension. Each spouse carries unique experiences, desires, and perspectives, and without a shared focus, these differences can lead to frustration and disconnection. However, when couples intentionally refocus their relationship—both with each other and with God—they can find a clearer path forward.

When things feel complicated, reconnecting spiritually can be a powerful step toward healing. Pray together, and consider keeping a shared journal of your prayers. Practice active listening, speaking to each other with love and patience. Seek guidance from a trusted couple or a marriage counselor if needed—there is no shame in asking for help. In fact, reaching out in difficult times is a sign of strength and commitment.

True peace in marriage doesn’t happen by accident—it must be pursued. Psalm 34:14 reminds us, “Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” When a couple makes a conscious effort to seek peace through love, unity, and understanding, even the most complicated seasons can become opportunities for growth and renewal.
