Here it is:

“A person who is honestly mistaken, and then learns the truth, will either cease to be mistaken, or cease to be honest.”

That’s it. That’s the devo. If you want a verse to go with it…

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

(2 Corinthians 2:17)

Paul is talking about false teachers, who preach a message that, from a distance, might seem to be right, but up close you soon realize is full of error. While it may be that some preach their lies knowing they are misleading people, there are still others who say what they do thinking it is the truth. There are many who corrupt the word of God, and they may even be sincere about it. The ones Paul is talking about were not sincere, but some are. There are some who preach a false message that they believe to be true and good. What happens when a sincere false teacher is confronted with the actual Truth of the Gospel?

He will either cease to be false or he will cease to be sincere; there is no third option.

Let’s all make sure we know our Bibles, and that we’re humble enough to listen when God tells us to change.
