It is the middle of May. What good habits have you gotten out of?
Don’t try to deny it. Look back on the past five months. How many of those resolutions that you stuck with through the cold of January and February survived into the Spring. Now Spring has sprung and Summer is almost upon us, are you still keeping up with those good habits? I’m not here to shame you. The Lord knows I too have made resolutions that fell by the wayside. I’ve been trying to “lose ten pounds” for two years now!
I come not to shame you but to encourage you.
I want to remind you that you can get back into that habit. It doesn’t matter that you failed before. It doesn’t matter how many people you told, back in January, what your plans were, and now that they’ve failed, you feel embarrassed to start over. You don’t want to look like a failure, but you for sure don’t want to look like a public failure. To that I say: Stop worrying about what others think about you. The odds are, most people have forgotten what you told them back in January. Can YOU remember what others told you about their plans from five months ago? Probably not. Look around; You’ll find lots of people who, like you, dropped the ball and failed to achieve their goals. That’s life.
You don’t have to give up. You’re a Christian, and Christianity is not a quitter’s religion. Christianity is a religion for champions. The great thing about being a Christian champion is your victory wasn’t earned by you; it was given to you as a gift (Ephesians 2:5). Granted, you have to persevere through hardships to reach the checkered flag at the end of life, but thanks be to God that you can do it. You can reach that flag through Christ (Philippians 4:13). You will stumble along the way, but through repentance and prayer, Christ will pick you back up and help you along until you reach the victory at the end of life (2 Timothy 4:8). Winning is in our spiritual DNA. Remember that. Now get back out there and make yourself that salad for lunch.
You can do it!
