How good is medicine in a bottle? It may be extremely good for relieving pain, clearing an infection, stabilizing a condition, improving quality of life, etc. However, it’s effectiveness drops to zero as long as it stays in the bottle and is never made a part of you.

What is the importance of memorizing and meditating on Scripture? Almost everyone carries around a phone that can access the internet. At almost any given time, anyone can have the entirety of the Bible as well as commentaries and search engines at their fingertips. What’s the point in memorizing Scripture anymore? If I have a question about a topic, I can ask google for verses about _______, and bam, it does all the work for me.

Having the Bible at my fingertips is good, like having medicine in a bottle is good. But we will never get the benefits from Scripture unless we are making it a part of us. Having it readily available in the mind and on the heart is what guides our decisions and actions before we even have a question about them. It’s like taking daily heart medication so that it is always at work in your system, not just available if you start feeling pains.

Let me encourage you to place an importance on memorizing and meditating on Scripture. Make it a daily practice. That way you have the Word of God always as a part of you working on your heart.
