Out of all the days of the week, Wednesdays are usually seen as a day described as the middle of the week slump. We are days away from last weekend and at the same time days away from the coming weekend. But for us at NHCOC, Wednesday doesn’t have to be seen in a negative light. For us, Wednesdays can be one of the best days because of the quality time we can enjoy when we come together for our mid-week Bible study. There is great joy, encouragement and opportunity for spiritual growth that occurs every week as each Wednesday rolls around.
The business of life can drain us. You’ve got school, work, and other responsibilities that can be overwhelming. But when we come together on Wednesday our time of Bible study serves as a refreshing break allowing us to refocus our hearts and minds on Jesus. We give and receive great encouragement from fellow Christians and it helps refuel our faith for the rest of the week.
Being together with brothers and sisters in Christians strengthens out bond as God’s family. We sing, “Bind us together, Lord. Bind us together with cords that cannot be broken.” Our midweek services provides opportunity for that binding to happen. Kids, teens, adults, and all families, benefit from the shared time with study, love, laughter, and genuine support for one another. This fellowship together reminds us that we are not alone in our walk with the Lord.
There is so much going on in our world today that can easily distract us from what is truly important. The world can be discouraging, filled with stress, bad news and challenges, but our midweek services provide a respite and refuge from such things.
Our time together on Wednesday gives us a space where hope, joy and encouragement abound. Listen to the conversations, prayers and teachings that uplift our spirits and renew our focus when we come together.
Bible study on Wednesday isn’t about obligation, its about opportunity for growth. Its a time of learning and discussing Scripture that will deepen our faith and equip is to face whatever life throws at us. I especially love and appreciate the opportunity for our NHYG and families to spend time before the devotional eating together and sharing our lives together. It creates a strong opportunity for spiritual growth and a foundation for faith.
When we leave on Wednesday nights (Which my family tends to be the last ones to drive off) we leave feeling refreshed and renewed. The encouragement we receive helps us finish off the week with a Christian perspective and endurance to be faithful to Jesus in the face of challenges ahead. These times are special and as a minister I cant wait to be with you again tonight and many more opportunities ahead, if the Lord wills it.
Consider this, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
In Christ alone,
Alex Mills
