With VBS behind us, the next big event on our calendar is our annual Family Day. This year, I’m very excited for us to host Barry Grider, the preacher for the Riverbend congregation in Dalton, Georgia…
In the past, we’ve used Family Day to host seminars and workshops on Friday and Saturday, leading up to our big Sunday homecoming, but this year, we’re bringing in a man I consider to be the consummate “Gospel Preacher.” Because of that, I just wanted us to have an old fashioned Gospel Meeting. No gimmicks or frills. Just a couple extra nights for us to gather together, sing together, and be encouraged by sermons from God’s Word.
Barry is the perfect man for that job, I promise you.
Be here on Friday evening, September 26th, at 7pm, as well as Saturday evening, September 27th, at 7pm to hear two excellent lessons from God’s Word, both in the lead-up to our big Family Day Sunday on September 28th. As always, we’ll have a special class at 9am, and worship at 10am. After that, we’ll enjoy a huge catered meal together. This is the one Sunday a year where we want, not only everyone who attends regularly to be there, but for everyone to invite family, friends, and old members who may have moved away.
Barry is a personal mentor of mine. He was one of my teachers in preaching school, during which time he served as the pulpit preacher for the congregation that oversaw the school of preaching. After I graduated, I remained there to work as their associate preacher, and even now, decades(!) later, Barry and I have kept in touch and remained close friends. He has a true gift for preaching the Gospel, and a genuine love for Christ and His church. I can’t wait for him to be here.
I hope you’re as excited for this year’s Family Day as I am. See you then!
