Mark your calendars now and make plans to attend our 2024 Family Day. The event will held here at North Heights on September 29th, 2024. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, secret crushes, worst enemies… Everyone. Invite everyone.

Invite who?

Alright, sheesh.

You might think it’s a little too early to start getting the word out now, and maybe it is, and maybe it will be in the middle of November when I remind us all again, and again in early January, and again in April, and also in July, and especially in August when I start talking about it every week, but there you go.

Now, here’s your Scripture for the day…

Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

(James 4:15)

Sometimes we make plans, even good and godly ones, but we forget to include God in them, we forget to reflect on God’s will about them, and we sometimes just forget to ask God to help us fulfil them.

Speaking just for myself (and this is something I said yesterday morning to one of our elders): I dropped the ball. I talked a lot about our weekend seminar with Kyle Butt and not enough about Sunday itself. I talked a lot about how important it was to invite people to come hear a great brother in Christ and tremendous defender of the truth, but not enough about how we need to be inviting our friends, family, and neighbors to worship with us on the Lord’s Day. I failed to motivate us to be reaching out to old members who have moved away, old friends we haven’t seen in a while, Christians who have fallen by the wayside over the past few years. I said more than a few times “oh we’re going to have 500 people here on Sunday” and didn’t do enough to make that presumption a reality.

I took for granted something that only ever happened because of hard work, persistence, and an appeal to the will of God.

I think yesterday was great, but I also think it could have been better, and I blame myself for not making that a reality. Next year, I promise to do better. Family Day is marked on my calendar, and the word about it is going to start going out right now.

God willing, it’ll be our biggest Sunday yet.
