I love meeting new people. It gives me excitement to have a conversation with someone I don’t know and ask them questions about who they are and where they grew up and understand their life story. Getting to know someone allows us to make new friends and perhaps even make a spiritual difference in their life. Even perhaps they make a spiritual difference in my life.

I know this is the case with God. If I get to know God and God gets to know me. Then I know that He could make a spiritual difference in my life. Even an eternal difference can be made. But I’ve got to get to know God so that our relationship builds and is strengthened over time well spent.

God is personal and is not only the beginning of all but the maintainer of all to this day. When Paul speaks to the people of Athens, he addresses the statue they had erected that was dedicated to the “unknown god”. Paul wants them to know the one they know nothing about (Acts 17:23). He teaches them that God is the source of everything. He made the world and everything in it. He is Lord of Heaven and earth, and He is the sustainer of all things. He gives life, breath, and all things. God is the end, the goal, and the purpose of all things.

We aim to seek and know God, who is at the center of all things. We exist because He exists. The whole purpose of man is fulfilled only when we know God, and man’s search for God must begin and end in the Word of God because that is where God has revealed Himself to us. If we want to get to know God, we must read His word and listen to His communication with us.

Do whatever it takes to take advantage of any and all opportunities to listen and learn what God has said to you. This is the way for you to be getting to know God.

Getting to know God means getting to know His Word and listening to everything He shares with you.

God loves you and so do I,

Alexander Mills
