A few days ago, I could not find one of my Bibles. I have several, and I use different ones for different occasions. I could not find my New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs in the Legacy Standard Bible translation.

I thought I left it in St.Louis at my FIL’s & MIL’s house. It was not there. I thought I left it in my office or at the church somewhere. It was not there. I thought I left it in my luggage from our trip over the Christmas holiday. It was not there. I started to think someone ganked it and was close to interrogating a few folks. I thought I’d give it one more day. Then I found it. Luckily I did not make a fool out of myself before finding it.

Our Bibles are precious to us. Not the apps on our phones, although those are handy too. I’m talking about the actual printed Bibles we carry. Well, some of us real Christians do. All kidding aside, people will ask, “I’m looking for a new bible; what do you suggest?” While I have my preferences, and I certainly can recommend a few, I suggest getting an actual printed copy of the Bible that you will read and use every day.

The Bible is precious, as it does contain the wonderful words of life. Words about Jesus. Words about the church. Words about salvation and eternal life. When we sing the song “Give Me the Bible,” I’m reminded not about the leather-bound pages or printed ink. I’m reminded about the message contained in the Bible about the wonderful words of life. Pick up your Bible today, pray over it and ask the Lord to help you open it up, read it, study it, understand it, apply it, and share it. For:

Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

2 Peter 1:3 – seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the full knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be equipped, having been thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Give me the Bible, Holy message shining,

Thy light shall guide me in the narrow way.

Precept and promise, law and love combining,

Till night shall vanish in eternal day.

Pick up your Bible and read about the precepts, promises, laws, and love today.

I love you,

Alex
