Look at that silly grin… let me tell you why I can’t stop smiling. I am so excited right now because over the next several weeks I am going to be head down studying the book of Acts for several reasons.

One – I am teaching the book of Acts to adults on Sunday mornings in room 13. This is will be a hybrid class with some students in person and some students online. If you are in the Batesville, area please join us at 9 am on Sunday mornings in person. If you are not able to be there in person for one reason or another join me online. You can still make comments and ask questions that I will respond to in real-time or later on if needed. This class will be examining the focus that Luke places on the church in the book of Acts. The book traditionally has been called the “Acts of the Apostles” and rightfully so but it could also be called the “Acts of the Disciples”, or the “Acts of the Church”. We are going to be looking at several characteristics that the church possessed that allowed it to grow exponentially in the first few years of her life. It will be a wonderful study and I am looking forward to it with a renewed spirit of curiosity. If you will be joining me in person or online read Acts chapter 1 in preparation for Sunday. See you then.

Two – I am teaching the book of Acts to a wonderful group of 5th and 6th graders who are eager to learn and apply what they are learning into their own lives. This group is very special because they will be studying this book for the next 9 months with my wife Kira teaching them on Sunday mornings. She will have Luanne Gregory in there with her on Sundays and I will have David Reese with me on Wednesday nights. They will benefit from the hard work that has been put into the curriculum by Sandy Norris and the hard work others have put into getting the room ready and the material poised for successful assimilation. If you have a 5th or 6th grader in the Batesville area please bring them to Bible class on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings at North Heights. You will be glad you did. It’s the best thing for your child.

Three – I am writing a research paper on the book of Acts from a historical perspective which will highlight the author, context, date, validity, and content of the book. Currently, I am reading J.W. McGarvey’s commentary on the book of Acts that was written in the time of the American Civil War. It is a commentary that has stood the test of time and one that I fall back on from time to time. The paper I am working on will be an in-depth study and a wonderful project that will benefit myself personally, the church at North Heights, and hopefully the church universal. I’m looking forward to the work and the time in the Word.

See, now you know why I am so excited and have this silly grin on my face.

You can have a silly grin too… join us for Bible classes.

I love you,

Alex
