Who you gonna call? Not when something’s strange but when you need to figure out what to do? Who do you talk to to help you make good decisions. At any given time we all face moments when we have to decide something that can shape our lives. It might be a career change, financial decision, moving to a new city, pursuing a relationship, or other major life events. While deciding what to do may feel overwhelming to us, God provides us with ways to navigate through it. His word should give us direction, His willingness to hear our prayers, and the people we trust the most that He has provided in our lives that can give us advice and counsel.

When you are trying to figure out what to do you would be wise to:

1. Listen to wise counsel from your closest friends. Take heed to these wise words:

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” (Proverbs 11:14)

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” (Proverbs 19:20)

When you face a tough choice, reach out to those who have demonstrated spiritual maturity and faithfulness. True friends will speak truth in love and help you evaluate decisions with a biblical viewpoint.

2. Spend time in prayer alone and with your closest friends. Even though it is wise to listen to those you trust it is even better if you can pray about it and pray with your fiends.  Remember God’s wisdom surpasses all human understanding. Prayer is essential to get you heart and mind in line with God’s will for you. James says:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5)

3. Decide that whatever direction you go you will serve God no matter what. Sometimes, God gives us two good options, both of which allow us to serve Him. The key is not the choice itself but the attitude of the heart. Whatever you decide, commit to making the glory of God your highest aim. Trust that God can use either choice to grow your faith and grow His kingdom. Paul says:

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23)

If you are faced with a making a decision or choosing between options don’t move forward until you seek wise counsel from godly friends you trust, saturate your choices in prayer, and decide that above all you want to serve God. Above all, make Christ the center of your life and that will ensure you’re on the right track.

Ask yourself this question:

What is one way God has guided you through a tough decision in the past?
