This morning, our church family lost a precious anchor of faith. Our dear sister, Pat Martin, was a steady example of love, humility, and perseverance in Christ. Her life blessed us in countless ways. I can’t tell you how many times she spoke words of encouragement about my preaching and song leading, and how she would shower my kids, Rachel, and Walter with praise. When we first moved here, we lived in her neighborhood, and I would stop by many times to check in with her and receive some of that encouragement. It was exactly what I needed, time and time again.

Through her kindness, her devotion to the Lord, and the way her family modeled goodness and faithfulness, so much encouragement was given. Though she walked through many difficulties in her later years, she did so with a heart that never let go of her hope in Jesus. Her absence leaves an ache in our hearts, yet we rejoice knowing she is now at rest in the presence of the One she served so faithfully.

The Psalms remind us, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants” (Psalm 116:15). We take great comfort in knowing that Miss Pat’s faith has become sight and that she now enjoys the reward of eternal life with Jesus. Let us grieve together as a family, but also hold fast to the hope of reunion. May her memory strengthen our faith and remind us to live with the same quiet love and steadfast devotion that she so beautifully displayed. We love you MORE, Miss Pat.
