Just a quick few thoughts to encourage you to ask God for what you need, want, or desire. And no it is not selfish to do so.
- God invites us to ask (Matthew 7:7-11). Jesus says “ask and it will be given to you…” Asking is not being selfish at all. God expects us to come to Him for what we need, want, and desire. So much so that He encourages it. God wants to be understood to be a father who wants to give good gifts to His children. He sees it as a way for us to grow closer to Him and recognize his goodness.
- God gives generously (James 1:5). God does not hold back on us keeping something for Himself or rationing blessings among his people. He give generously and is never stingy. James says, “He who lack wisdom let him ask of God who gives generously to all without reproach”. We dont need to be afraid to ask God for wisdom or anything else. Asking God is never rejected. We may not get everything we desire but if never hurts to ask God for what we need or want. It’s not selfish to seek God’s help and intervention when we humbly approach Him with sincerity.
- God responds according to His will (1 John 5:14-15). Our prayers are heard and answered every single time. How God answers is always in alignment with His will. “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” Not everything we want is given but asking is always encouraged. When we put our will inline with God’s will there is no limit to what He can do.God can refine our desires as we grow and learn to submit to His will.
Asking God for what you want is not selfish. Its faithful. You are not demanding God do something. You are building a relationship of trust and dependance with God. Let your heart be one that seeks God openly, honestly, and humbly. Honor and worship God and bring your desires to Him. Trust that in His wisdom he knows how to give you what you want, need or desire.
