I know I am late to the game, but I have recently started watching “The Chosen”. This is a television drama with several seasons already released that brings the story of Jesus to life through the eyes of those who met Him. It focuses on the personal journeys of His disciples and blends historical and biblical context with imaginative storytelling. I know they take a few liberties here and there to help the story relate to the viewers. but one thing that I have noticed and appreciate most of all is how it shows the humanity and of Jesus in a fresh and relatable way. Jesus jokes, laughs, enjoys life in the show which is something that I have not spent much time on contemplating. However, I know since He was 100% human He experienced life in much the same way we do as well. I appreciate this.
I’m not watching this show to get some deeper theological understanding of the Christ nor am I expecting it to change my view on Jesus’ mission or how the Bible describes His purpose. I’m watching it for entertainment. However, I am certainly appreciative of the relatability that is depicted in the Jesus character. With that it in mind makes me appreciate these verses even more.
John 1:14 – And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Hebrews 4:15 – For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.
Philippians 2:7-8 – Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross.
I in no way endorse the show as to it’s biblical accuracy but it is for sure fun to watch and I appreciate the effort to make Jesus even more relatable. It motivates me to read the gospels again and watch for displays of Jesus as a real man who lived among us.
For that I appreciate it.
You can download the “The Chosen” app and watch all the seasons for free.
