a “Leap” year thought

Today is leap year day, the day that only comes around once every four years (except for the turn of the century, as in 1700, 1800, and 1900, but 2000 doesn’t count because it’s divisible by four…ANYWAY), due to the fact that the earth revolves around the sun slightly longer than once every 365 days. It’s a complicated thing, but trust me, we need this day. Speaking of “leaping” I’m reminded of what happened when Mary visited Elizabeth: The latter mother-to-be was carrying John the baptizer in her belly, while the former was carrying the Christ child. When the two of them got together one day…

And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

(Luke 1:41)

As an unborn baby, John leapt when he came close to his cousin Jesus. That wasn’t the only time he leapt at the sight of Jesus, either…

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

(John 1:29)

Now it doesn’t say that John leapt when he saw Jesus coming, but metaphorically he did; he was certainly happy to see the Christ arriving on the scene, ready to preach, teach, heal, and save.

So what about you? When you get to be near Jesus, through prayer, Bible study, and through worshiping alongside the saints…do you leap with joy? Are you excited? We should be. We need to be. There’s no better thing we can do than worship God and praise His name. It’s what all of Heaven will be like, and we get to have a taste of it every time the saints gather on the Lord’s Day.

Enjoy your leap year day, and make plans now to leap with the Lord on His day this coming Sunday!
