Most days, I prefer blue skies, white clouds, and plenty of sunshine. It affects my overall mood for the day. For some reason, I think it will be a good day if the sun is shining. Years ago, when Kira and I lived in Conway, a car wash near our house had a slogan on their sign near the street that said, “The sun is shining and we’re the best.” Kira and I always thought that was a funny statement. I understand what their trying to say. “Look, the sun is out, there is no rain, and we are the best car wash in town.” Kira and I still say this to each other occasionally when the sun is out.

However, as much as I love the sun. I absolutely appreciate the rain. Sure, there have been times that I might be a little negative towards rain, especially if it might spoil my plans. (Church Picnics) But I don’t need to see rain as a bad thing. As a gardener, I know it is a blessing. It nourishes the earth for the benefit of the righteous and unrighteous (Matthew 5:45).

Even when rain comes at the most inopportune times, it is not the enemy. Our loving God provides it to give us a clean, refreshing perspective. He uses water to provide nutrients, relief, and even salvation.

If it rains in the next few days, meditate on these thoughts and view the rain as a blessing from God.

Let it rain!
