As we talked about throughout 2023, our God is eternal; He has been around before the beginning began. He is described as an unchanging God (Malachi 3:6). Nevertheless, God is a God of new things. He bought us a new hope through Jesus’ death, and brought us a new covenant through Jesus’ life-again. He housed us in a new Israel in Jesus’ body, and He promises us a renewed body after this one is dead and buried.

2024 is a week old today. Probably, you’re only just now getting used to this being a new year. It takes some of us a while to get comfortable. On the other hand, maybe you hit the ground running on January 1 and haven’t looked back. A new year means new beginnings for a lot of people. New plans will be made. New resolutions will be vowed. Go ahead and make your plans. Go ahead and set your goals. Just remember, that with each “new” thing, there should be a “new” prayer to accompany it. Don’t leave the Lord out of your plans. Don’t make the mistake of the foolish person James talked about…

For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that…
(James 4:15)

Have your plans, but carry them up as prayers to God’s throne. It may be that by May you’ve decided to scale things back a bit. That’s normal. We can’t always handle all the things we’re trying to juggle. The Lord can, though. He’s not overwhelmed by anything. He’s listening, He can handle it, and He’s here for us. Do you have a “new thing” thing this year? Talk to the Lord about it.

New things are His specialty.
