This week, the NHYG is spending a lot of time together since its Spring Break. On Sunday, we enjoyed Bible class and studied Romans 7 (The struggle within is real). We worshipped with the rest of NHCOC and then played basketball together that afternoon. On Tuesday, we served the community of Cushman by volunteering our time and energy to organize supplies and help those in need after the disastrous tornado that hit a few weeks ago. Today, we are hanging out in our NHYG Youth Center, playing games, watching movies, and eating lunch together. Later, we will gather with the rest of our church family for Bible study at 6:30. Tomorrow is another fun day. We will travel to Conway for some fun activities.
Some people might think that I’m crazy for wanting to spend that much time with teenagers. But I beg the differ. Teenagers energize me and make me feel younger. They are a joy and a great blessing.
Psalm 127:3-5 says,
“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate.”
The NHYG is a vibrant, energetic group of young people who are always ready to serve others joyfully and enthusiastically. Whether helping with service projects, encouraging younger kids, or participating in any of our church’s events, their hearts are set on doing good. What stands out the most is how much they genuinely enjoy being together—no matter what we’re doing, laughter, encouragement, and love fill our youth center, teen classroom or any place we gather. Their unity and willingness to serve are a true blessing to our church family and a powerful example of Christ-like love in action.
I view each of these teenagers as my own children—a blessing from the Lord. (a couple of them are).
If you ever want to know how you can support our work in the NHYG, let me know, and I will put you to work.
In Christ alone,
Alex Mills
