This time of year, the weather is just abysmal. It’s cold, and wet, the ground is soggy, the sky is often overcast and grey. All of the trees are bare, the grass is yellow. It is a barren time. Which means now is the perfect time to start gardening…sort of. True, if you put anything in the ground right now, it’s not going to take off and start growing. But we know that this season will not last forever and there are things that can be done now to make the spring more productive. I am already starting to plan out my garden so that I know what, and how many, seeds to get. You can begin preparing your garden spot now by putting out lime and tilling it in. You can check over your gardening tools to make sure they are in good shape. Some things can even be started indoors right now. Instead of this being a ‘down time’ of the year for gardening, it is really a ‘preparation time’ for gardening. I am preparing for what is to come.
Many of us have times in our lives where we feel like it’s a spiritual winter. Not much is happening and things don’t seem to be growing. But instead of it being down time, it is really preparation time. It’s time to be reading our Bibles and studying more than ever, it’s time to be assessing our Fruit of the Spirit to see what areas we need to allow God to work on, it’s time to be on our knees praying more than ever. Instead of bemoaning the season we are in, we need to working because God changes the seasons (in our lives as well as on Earth).
If you’re Spiritual Fruit is growing like crazy right now, great. But if not, what preparations can you be making now so that when growing season comes, you are ready to make the most of it?
