Preachers say the craziest things at times. I’ll admit it. Now, that does not give you a free pass to not listen to your preacher. He should be preaching God’s Word with intellectualism and enthusiasm and you would be wise to listen and pay attention. But there are times… that he will say things just to motivate you as a listener to do things that will bring glory and honor to God.

Case in point:

  • On Sunday I said that if we have 350 people come to VBS one night this week that I will take a pie in the face on the last night.
  • Monday night we had 367 people. Pie in the face will happen.
  • Last night I said that if we break 400 people by the last night then I will not only take the pie in the face but I will shave my head and Matthew will wear a wig!

Oh the things preachers will say to motivate the brethren to do the work of the Lord.

Now, I’m good with the arrangements and how it will all pan out. If there are 400 people here for VBS I will do what I said I will do. I know that the kids are motivated and a few adults who have made it their mission to encourage such silliness. (AMC)

But let me say this… Let’s not be motivated to do evangelism by the craziness of one of your preachers. Let’s be motivated to do evangelism because we love the Lord and we love people.

Invite people to VBS… worship… potlucks… Back to School Bashes… Defending the Truth Seminar… Family Day… 2nd Sunday Fellowship & Devotionals… Trunk or Treat… Polar Express because you want them to get to know the Lord and His people.

I hope and pray we break 400 this week not because I am a fool and say and do foolish things. I hope and pray we break 400 because there are people we can reach and teach with the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Matthew 28:19-20

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

I love you,

Alex
