This past week my family and I went on vacation. We had a great time playing and entertaining ourselves with a whole bunch of fun in the sun. We came back a little more tan or burnt than we usually are. The real reason we needed to go on vacation is to recharge our batteries as a family. You know how it is… things wear down. A flashlight doesn’t shine as bright as it once did. Your car doesn’t start as quickly or at all. The buttons on the remote don’t respond. As soon as we realize the batteries are dead, we replace them with charged batteries.

Families and especially ministers and their families, need to be recharged. There is so much demand and so much stress there is a great need for a family to get away from it all and rest, relax and recharge.

The Christian needs to recognize when they are worn down too. When you are tired and burned out, grouchy, and irritable, take a moment and rest, relax and recharge. Restore your soul. It is so vital for Christians to recognize when we feel this way. Reset yourselves and go on vacation. Now, this does not mean that you stop being a Christian, but it does mean that it is ok for you to catch your breath and recharge your batteries to keep on serving the Lord as you should. That’s why I need vacation time. That’s why all of us need a time of restoration. It motivates us to come back into the Kingdom work ready to get busy again serving the Lord.

Notice these words in the 23rd Psalm…

The LORD is my shepherd,

I will not be in need.

He lets me lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside quiet waters.

He restores my soul;

I love you,

Alex
