Man, haven’t the last few days felt amazing?! This is glimpse of what’s to come soon. In fact, I’ve already started some seeds inside my house. I’ve got some tomato, broccoli, cauliflower, pea, and pepper seeds planted in trays and already tiny green plants have been popping up under the grow lights.

“But it’s February!” you say. “We just had a foot of snow on the ground last week! And have you seen the forecast? It’s going to get back down into the 50’s in a couple of days. It is not time to be thinking about growing stuff.”

If we focus in on last week’s weather and see what’s coming in the next couple of weeks, then, yeah, it would seem like a good idea to hold on to those seeds. But I know that spring is coming. So, I’m preparing now, during the snow and during the cold, so that when the time is right, I’ve already got things growing.

We may not know when our Lord will return, but we know that it’s coming. We may not know when God will provide ‘seasons of growth’ in our lives, but we know that they are coming. What are you doing now so that you are ready to produce a harvest for the Kingdom? What are you doing now to spread the Word of God so that I can take root?

I’ve always had a hard time understanding why Jesus cursed the fig tree that had no figs because it wasn’t the season for figs to grow (Mark 11). There are several conclusions that can be made from this story, but I think Jesus may have been making the point that he may call on us at any time to show our fruit, whether or not we feel that it is our right time to be fruitful.

So, what can I do to help you get your seeds scattered? (That’s a metaphor, but I’ll also help you literally if you want help gardening).
