Sharing the gospel can sometimes seem like a daunting task. We question so many things. What do I say? How do I say it? What passages should I turn to and read? What if they don’t like what I have to say? All of these questions are valid and should be considered when planning to share the gospel with someone. But don’t overcomplicate it.

There’s an old phrase that has been used when teaching people how to communicate with others that I can appreciate but at the same time don’t prefer.

“Keep it simple, stupid.

I like the first few words for the most part, but the last word bothers me. I do want to keep it simple, but I am not stupid; neither is the message nor the listeners. But keeping it simple is good advice when considering how to share the gospel with others. Simply share.

The best advice I have been given, which I now pass on to you, is to simply share your personal gospel story.

Paul does this in Acts 22. You should read the entire chapter and notice how Paul communicates. Paul begins by pleading with the crowd to stop and listen to the defense he offers. Paul does five things that share how he became a Christian.

  1. He shares who he was (Acts 22:3). This is something you can do, too. Simply share with others how you grew up and where you are from.
  2. He shares what he did (Acts 22:4-5). This is something you can do, too. Simply share with others what sins you have been guilty of and your mistakes.
  3. He shares what happened to him (Acts 22:6-15). This is something you can do, too. Simply share with others when and how you learned the truth about Jesus.
  4. He shares what he was told to do in response (Acts 22:16). This is something you can do, too. Simply share with others when and how you were baptized into Christ, washing away your sins, calling on His name.
  5. He shared what he is doing in now (Acts 22:17-21). This is something you can do, too. Simply share with others what you are doing now to serve the Lord and His kingdom and why it is important to you to share the gospel.

Sharing the gospel does not have to be complicated. Just tell people what you did, how you did it, when you did it, and why you did it.

Simply share.

I love you,

Alex
