This coming Sunday night, you will not want to miss the first of several SWORD SHARPENINGS we will have here at NHCOC. What does that even mean, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. Our elders see it as a very important thing to encourage deeper bible study among our members. This includes encouraging capable men to get up and preach a sermon at full length after they have studied and prepared a lesson on their own time in their own personal lives. This is a great opportunity for us to encourage each other as we listen to what these men have prepared.

First up is our brother, Jimmy Hubbard. I know Jimmy is well qualified to preach the word of God, and I know that he has done a good job in his preparation, and he will do great in his presentation. You will want to come to listen to Brother Hubbard.

The whole idea is one that is based on Scripture. Proverbs 27:17 says,

As iron sharpens iron

So one man sharpens another.

A piece of iron has the ability to sharpen another piece of iron, but it happens through striking, friction, and with sparks flying everywhere. Our mind should go to the scene of a blacksmith with his hammer on a sword to make it sharp.

A man can be used to improve and develop his brothers and sisters, but we have to realize that it may happen with friction and sparks. In other words, we need to be challenged and not afraid when we must rethink what we have always done. Expect that a sharpening can happen only when there is friction. When someone preaches the word to us, it must challenge us to live a different way or think differently. Together in the mutual study, we can push each other to be better and SHARPER than what we were.

Join us this Sunday night at 5 pm for a special treat. You will NOT want to miss it.

I love you,

Alex
