It’s easy to get overwhelmed with talking to our lost friends and family about Jesus. But it need not be. We need to feel comfortable and confident in telling others about the good news of Jesus. But before we can get the first word out about Jesus’ life, ministry, death, burial, resurrection, and return, we need to talk to God about it and ask for His help. Prayer is where our efforts need to begin.

What did Jesus do before He called his disciples to Him to choose twelve specific apostles? He prayed Luke 6:12). What did the church do before they sent out Paul and Barnabas in their missionary efforts? They prayed (Acts 13:1-3). What did Paul and Silas do when their evangelistic efforts were being suppressed and cast into prison? They prayed (Acts 16:25).

Prayer is always the first step in any evangelistic effort. Talking to the lost begins by talking with God. Prayer is essential evangelistically because it acknowledges the power of God and His involvement in our work. Prayer helps us realize that God is in charge, and we are only His servants as we work to spread the message.

So when you don’t know how to begin talking to your lost spouse, friend, co-worker, 3rd cousin once removed… begin with prayer. Talk to God before talking to the lost.

I love you,

Alexander
