It has been one of those days that started early and was busy all day until now. Do you ever have those moments when you just need to step away because you are so busy that you felt that you can’t catch your breath? Today, was one of those days for me. I have not stopped.
But at around 10:30 this morning I did get to stop and have a devotional Bible study with area preachers and discuss Philippians 2:5-11. That was exactly what I needed.
Paul says:
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 5:5-11

Here are a few thoughts we preachers talked about this morning from this passage:

  • Jesus’ attitude is the attitude we need to have.
  • Jesus was willing to give up the glories of heaven to come to earth.
  • Jesus came to be nothing when He could have come to be everything.
  • Jesus chose to take the form of a bond servant.
  • Jesus was a carpenters son (Can you imagine the furniture that God can build?)
  • Jesus looked like an everyday man
  • Jesus humbled himself and was obedient to death even the worst death
  • Jesus was exalted by God and given the name above every name
  • Jesus’ name will cause everyone to bow one day.
  • Jesus’ name will be confessed as Lord  by everyone one day.

It’s all about JESUS.
That’s exactly what I needed. I hope you needed it ,too!
