The book of Acts of the Apostles is arguably one of the most under-appreciated and perhaps understudied books in the New Testament. Diligent Bible students would be wise to reconsider the historical value of this most excellent work from Luke. I finished reading the book a few days ago, and I started thinking about the great value it provides to Christians today. Here are a few of my thoughts:

  • While all of the Bible is valuable (2 Timothy 3:16-17), the book of Acts is key to understanding the history of Christianity and how the apostles put Jesus’ words into action.
  • Acts provides details concerning the evangelistic efforts of the church beginning in Jerusalem and reaching the uttermost parts of the world.
  • Acts provides valuable information about how a church is to be established, fiction, and organized.
  • The book of Acts is vital to understand the importance of spreading the message of Jesus at all costs.
  • The book of Acts sets the stage for the rest of the New Testament books and especially the epistles of Paul, as it provides the historical travels of the apostles over the earth to preach the gospel.
  • Acts provides Christians today with motivation for out to live courageous lives dedicated to the spread of Christianity.
  • Acts provides numerous examples of conversions by people, which always resulted in their baptism.
  • Acts demonstrates the power of prayers in the church and the individuals who make it up.
  • Acts provides us with multiple examples of how Christians should overcome obstacles and still carry out the mission of the church.
  • Acts reminds us to be bold, fearless, and faithful as we trust in the Lord.

Let me encourage you to read through the book of Acts and keep reading through the New Testament every month.

I love you,

Alex
