If someone asked me, “What is the Gospel?” I’d start by saying it’s the best news anyone could ever hear. But it’s also the big picture that ties everything together. It’s not just about me or you; it’s about God, the world, sin, and His plan to put everything right. It’s about redemption, mercy, salvation, and eternal life available to the entire globe.
At its heart, the Gospel is this: God created everything, and He has not and will not give up on His creation. Even though sin and death have broken it God wants to provide salvation. The Gospel tells us that God has been at work throughout history, calling a people to Himself. He began with Abraham and fulfills His promises through Jesus, the Messiah. Jesus came not just to save individuals but to bring God’s kingdom into this broken world.
When we think about the Gospel, we often focus on how Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again so we can be forgiven and have a relationship with God. That’s absolutely true and amazing, but there’s more to it. The Gospel is bigger than just personal salvation. It’s about Jesus being the Lord over everything in our lives.
Right now, our teens are studying the book of Romans, and it’s already evident as we have just begun working through the text that Paul makes the gospel clear in his letter to them. He talks about how Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promises to Israel and how God’s plan includes bringing people from all nations, Jews and Gentiles, together into one family. It’s about God putting the world back in order, freeing it from the grip of sin and death. When we believe in Jesus and obey the Gospel, we’re not just saved from something; we’re saved for something. We’re brought into this beautiful story of God’s mission to redeem and restore everything.
So yes, the Gospel is personal; it’s about your relationship with God. But it’s also global. It’s about God reclaiming His creation. It’s about how Jesus, as the Messiah, makes us into His people who reflect His image and share His love with the world.
In short, the Gospel is this: Jesus is and should be Lord of our lives and of all creation. He came to fix what’s broken, to bring people back to God, and to establish His kingdom where justice, mercy, and peace reign. That’s the good news, and it’s worth sharing with everyone.
