This week, our church is putting in hundreds and hundreds of work hours for VBS. But here’s the question: why? Why put up such elaborate decorations? Why prepare classes and crafts and snacks? Why all the work?

Answer: We do it for the kids in the name of the Lord.

Children hold a special place in our Savior’s heart. He was always kind and loving toward them, far more so than the culture he was in. Christ was always reaching out to those who were considered the least in society. And his command was for us to treat ‘the least’ as though we were treating the Lord.

“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” (Matt 25:40)

We go all out this week for the kids because we would go all out for our Lord. Every hour of work putting decorations up on the wall, every craft that is cut out and prepared, every piece of tape that is rolled up and stuck to a chair is done, ultimately, for our Lord.

Come this week and serve the Lord by serving ‘the least of these.’
