I don’t know if you noticed this past week, but the temperature outside dropped. A lot. Normally we see a much more gradual change, but this time it was 90s one day and 70s the next (and 60s this weekend!).

When you see the seasons change, do you see God at work?

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons;” (Daniel 2:20-21)

Too often we fall into the trap of thinking that God is not active in the everyday things. Sure, He may swoop in every now and then and miraculously help out the sick or those down on their luck. But otherwise He built the machine that we call Earth, and is letting it run while He is watching from somewhere way out ‘There’.

But the Bible doesn’t say that. Our God is in and a part of our world. Job 38 & 39 show God as not just an active member, but the manager and fuel for everything in existence. God didn’t make a world to run independently from Him. “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Col 1:17)

I think this time God made the season change more abruptly than usual just so that we would take notice that He is the one who commands the seasons. Next time you step outside and feel the cool autumn air, praise God that he is active in our world and in your life.
