I don’t share many things from social media. But this was pretty good. You have probably already seen it if you are on Facebook. But here is the post and I have a comment about it below.

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee?  “Because someone bumped into me!!!”

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.  Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves… “what’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratitude, peace and humility?  Anger, bitterness, victim mentality and quitting-tendencies?

Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it. Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, resilience, positivity; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

That’s the end of the post…it’s Shawn speaking again.

This article carefully avoids religion but I will say it…Fill your life with Christ. And not just a little bit. Adding a little bit of sugar to your coffee means that you will still spill coffee. We cannot just add Christ to our lives, we must make him our lives. Christ, in humility, emptied himself to become obedient to the Father (Phil 2:6-8). We, too, must empty ourselves through humility so that we can be filled with his Spirit. Then as life bumps us around, it is Christ that is seen spilling over in the form of compassion, mercy, grace, love, faith, and forgiveness.
