Thanksgiving is behind us and Christmas is right around the corner. That means put down the turkey drumstick and pick up a piece of fudge. It’s hard to be skinny during the holidays. You start eating candy on Halloween and you don’t stop with the sweets until the New Year. Don’t let me stop you; that’s not what this is about.

Instead I want to encourage you to trim the spiritual fat.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
(Hebrews 12:1-2)

You wanna lose the spiritual weight? You wanna shed those sinful pounds? You gotta run them off. Look to Jesus as your goal, lay aside those cumbersome weights and start running. In no time you’ll be a lean, mean, Christian machine.

Keep up with the same bad habits, however, and you’ll die of a spiritual heart attack.

Get in shape before it’s too late!
