I wrote most of this article about 3 years ago but needed this reminder again. You probably do too. I revised it just a little to update it and make a new point.
It was not that long ago that someone asked me how I was and if things were going well for me. It was just small talk so my answer was very general. I said, “Oh, I’m doing fantastic and things are very well. I’m really busy. But that’s a good thing, right?”
Then I started thinking about how busy I was and how I need to do better about balancing my time and energy more efficiently. I have a supportive wife and family (shout out to Kira and the kids). I have a supportive church family (shout out to you). I have a supportive work ministry team (shout out to Matthew, Shawn, Margaret, the Elders, and Deacons).
Why do I still feel that I need 8 hands to get everything done? Probably, because I’m trying to get everything done. This time of year always seems busier than normal. This year I am committed not to getting overwhelmed, not putting too much on my plate, and not taking on too much. I am committed to saying “no” to more things and “yes” to a few things. I am committed to balance. I want to work hard at work but I also want to work hard at being a dad, husband, and most importantly a faithful Christian. I encourage you to do the same. Work the hardest at being a Christian.
Find the balance of what is REALLY important and what can take the back-burner. Don’t be too busy because those things that really don’t matter will distract you from what really does matter. It’s time to get our priorities straight. What must come first is the Kingdom of Christ and seeking righteousness. Listen to Jesus…
Matthew 6:33 – But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
