Yesterday, while I was on a quick road trip to watch Rachel play basketball, Kira was driving, which meant I was in the passenger seat. That means that I had no control over the wheel. Kira’s a good driver (most of the time), but that means I don’t have control over what lane we are in or how fast we are going. This is precisely what life often feels like.

There are moments when we are not steering anything. We can’t control the outcome, the timing, or the situation in front of us. Psalm 37:5 gives us a reminder we desperately need in seasons like this.

“Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will do it.”

The answer to situations like this is “trust in Him,” but I want to focus our thoughts on the first part of that verse. What does it mean to “commit” our way to the Lord?

To “commit our way to the Lord” means more than handing our problems over to God. It means handing Him ourselves. The word carries the idea of “rolling something onto” God. It means we shift the full weight of our plans, hopes, and direction onto His shoulders rather than ours. It’s a posture of trust that says, “God, You see what I can’t. You know what I don’t. And I will follow your lead.”

Committing our way to the Lord means inviting Him into our decisions, surrendering our desire to control outcomes, and believing that His path is always better than ours. Even if it is unexpected or sudden. It’s living each day with open hands, trusting that the One who guides us is faithful, wise, and knows what is best.

Commit your way to Him, today!

Blessings!
